We welcomed our new football coach Enda.  
Every Wednesday all classes are timetabled in to learn, experience and improve their football techniques.  The weekly coaching has encouraged and strengthened the children's skills at football.

 

 

 

  






Bike Green - Cycle Right programme

5th - 6th Classes

Cycle Right provides practical cycle safety and skills training to promote competent and confident cyclists. 
The children have been learning essential road safety and competency skills such as bike handling, correct use of helmets, negotiating roundabouts, traffic lights, traffic signage, travelling at appropriate speeds for the road surfaces and conditions, moving between major and minor roads, meeting pedestrians/animals/vehicles, etc. 

1st - 4th Classes
Sprocket Rocket programme focuses on 4 main skills; cornering, pedalling, braking and balance. Throughout the Sprocket Rocket programme the cyclist is brought through three progressions in each of these skills. 








What a busy week we had during Orienteering Week.  Lots of activities and adventures around the school yard and St Bricin's Campus.  We were working our way through mazes, reading maps, hopping, skipping and jumping through obstacle courses and lets not forget making funny faces using all our  equipment.

 This year we are zoning in on the Outdoor and Adventure strand in P.E.  

A fun week of activities is planned for our orienteering week. 

Each day all classes are scheduled to take part in various fun activities and our seniors have the opportunity to visit St Bricin's College grounds to use their yard which has been specially mapped out for orienteering.  





PDST - Move Well Move Often 

Fundamental Movements


All class teachers incorporated 4 fundamental movement skills within their P.E lessons this year. The following is a short video on the fun activities to showcase the children's skills.  
All classes will continue to work on the fundamental movements as they are a critical component in our children's physical development.

Ms Gilroy, Mrs Walsh and Mrs Hyland recently completed the
 Ready to Go Orienteering course with the Irish Orienteering Association in conjunction with Cavan Sports Partnership.  
Well done on completing this course.  
Information was passed on to all our teachers and will be a wealth of knowledge for our upcoming Orienteering week May 31st - Jun 4th. 
 We look forward to all the great activities that is planned.

Gymka Kidz 

We welcome Niall back for 6 weeks of Gymnastics.  Each class in the school takes part every Friday in Gymnastics in the Civic Centre. This is thoroughly enjoyed by all and Niall got a great welcome back!!








Nature Trails



Junior Infants explore and walk around Turbet Island, along The River Erne.  It is educational, active and fun. The junior children in our school really enjoy these activities!!

We kicked off September with football coaching with Graham.  Every Wednesday all classes are timetabled in to learn, experience and improve their football techniques.











Gymka Kidz



Our 6 week Gymnastics started again this year on the 14th September with our instructor Niall.
 In term 1 all Children from Junior to sixth class take part in Gymnastics 6 week programme to cover the P.E strand.  The children have great fun taking part in this activity and progress greatly within the 6 weeks.

Teachers also pick up new skills in gymnastics and carry out some movements in other areas of the P.E curriculum throughout the year!

IRISH WATER SAFETY

LAND PAWS 
DEMONSTRATION

The girls from 5th & 6th class took part in an Irish water safety workshop today June 1st as part of the Land Paws educational programme.  Emma from Irish Water Safety Presented the girls with a very informative presentation and then took the girls on yard to learn some life saving skills.
The children learned how to be safe around water in homes, farms, pools, beaches and on our waterways.

They Children will receive certificates from Irish Water Safety in the coming weeks.






CPD 

In Physical Education


Mrs Drumm recently completed the PDST course Move Well, Move Often in Cavan Sports Complex.  Well done on completing this course of Physical Literacy and Fundemental Movements.  Mrs Drumm will pass on the information to all our teachers.









Mrs Clarke and Miss Brady took part in the Smart Moves programme this year.  The programme can be used as a specific ‘catch up’ scheme to develop gross motor skills or as an integral part of the PE and games curriculum. 

It is an introduction to implementing a motor skills development programme for children with co-ordination difficulties and related developmental disorders.




Games

This Year the strand for further development is Games.  
Teachers in partnership with coaches from the Rory O'Moore's (local football club), Cavan County Board and St Bricin's vocational School (Teachers) will work together to train and further develop the skills of  both Teachers and Children in the P.E strand - Games.

Super Troopers
 Homework


Super Troopers homework encourages children and their families to become more active and learn about healthy lifestyles. The programme includes short burst, fun activities around physical activity, well-being and nutrition.
Each night all children will complete their Journal and tick off when activity is completed.
